If you think a little pudge or a little bit of belly fat isn’t a big deal, it is time you reconsider how long you want to live happy and healthy.
According to a recent study by the New England Journal of Medicine, research shows that being overweight can actually increase your risk of premature death by a slight percentage.
This is scary, but it is nothing that a healthy meals to lose weight couldn’t prevent.
Healthy meals are definitely the way to go. With busy schedules, and living in a society that endorses a “multi-tasking” lifestyle, it can be hard to figure out what meals you should eat in order to promise yourself a long and healthy life.
For this particular study, researchers collaborated the results from 19 long-term studies that followed the lives of mostly white adults. They used each individual's body mass index to come up with the data about shorter life expectancies, and to see who passed away during a certain period of time. These individuals were monitored on a basis of 8 to 25 years.
Researchers in this study excluded adults who smoked, and who had pre-existing health conditions like heart disease and cancer. Researchers wanted conclusive evidence that strictly focused on the health consequences of being overweight.
In order to make sure that statistics were concluded appropriately, researchers depended on data based on the BMI scale for each individual. The BMI scale is a tool used to determine if you are average, overweight, or obese for your weight and height.
For overweight women, the study showed that compared to women of average weight, they were 13% more likely to die prematurely. These statistics were about the same for an average men compared to an overweight men. The studies also showed that morbidly obese men and women were two times more likely to die prematurely.
Despite of what you may hear, the evidence revealed in this study suggests that being slightly overweight does not mean you are still living a healthy life.
One of the main reasons this study was done was to combat recent research from other sources that being slightly overweight was not linked to an increased risk of premature death. With 2/3 of the U.S. population being either overweight or obese, it is important that people know the significance of what healthy meals to lose weight can do for them.
